Get to know Everflon™ PTFE Micropowder MVP.

Everflon™ PTFE MVP is a finely milled PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). It is especially suitable for thermoplastic applications. This micropowder may also be used for compounding in rubber and thermoset products. The rounded particle shape and intermediate hardness permit mixing without further breakdown and without large increases in viscosity. This product is FDA compliant for food contact applications. Everflon™ PTFE MVP also features a low volatile content which may have value in specialized applications. No perfluorooctanic acid (PFOA) or its salts are used to manufacture Everflon™ PTFE MVP.

Typical Applications

Typical loadings of 5 to 20% by weight are used. Plastics that can benefit in this manner include polyacetals, polyamides, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyimides, polysulfides, and polysulfones; elastomers include acrylates, fluoroelastomers, neoprenes, nitriles, and silicones. Added to high-viscosity specialty lubricants designed for use under high pressure, Everflon™ PTFE MVP may increase lubricity and service life, especially at high temperatures or in corrosive environments. It has beenused in silicone, fluorosilicone, and hydrocarbon lubricant bases. Smooth, uniform suspensions can be made using conventional blending methods.

Precaution

Equipment used to process at melt temperatures should be provided with local exhaust ventilation (LEV) to completely remove all fumes and vapors from the processing area. In addition, care should be exercised to avoid the contamination of cigarettes and other forms of smoking tobacco when using fluoroplastic resins. Before processing any fluoroplastics, read the Material Safety Data Sheet.

Package

Everflon™ PTFE MVP is packaged in 25-kg (55.1-lb) drums. Eight 25-kg drums are packaged on one pallet for ease of shipping, handling, and storage.

Storage and Handling

Heating Everflon™ PTFE in excess of 399 °C (750 °F) can produce toxic fumes. It is, therefore, necessary to provide local exhaust ventilation in areas where Everflon™ PTFE products are exposed to high temperatures. Avoid breathing fumes or contaminating smoking tobacco with fumes, powder, or dust.

Thermal decomposition of this product will generate hydrogen fluoride, which is corrosive. Corrosion resistant materials are required for prolonged contact with molten resin.
